Identifying the real work of HR Manager is sometimes difficult as it has to correspond
with lot of people in the organization and is involved in various activities, from
top level to lower level and mostly crowded at middle level. Let us see if we can
bring out some of the points which HR manager performs in their professional life.
1. It’s about people: Yes peoples’ management
is the core thing which HRs are involved with; keeping their information, documents, previous employer details, current
details and other work related to data and information handling.
When it is peoples’ management then looking for employee perks, benefits and
appraisals & considering their performance becomes an integral part. One has
to manage employee’s personal problems, sometimes on behalf of company, to
handle grievance; counseling is inevitable part for an HR & has to be taken care of.
Employee development is a necessary thing and HR should take it seriously. For this,
training sessions can be conducted, certificate programs can be run, keep track
of knowledge management and do the personality development program for its employees.
2. It’s about building the organizational culture:
This is very important for an organization to maintain and keep building its culture
in a healthy fashion. This is to keep the workforce motivated and allow the flow
of positive vibes. This can be achieved by managing the things like, proper dress
code, out-of-regular-job tasks like event organizing, quiz organizing, small functions,
Rangoli and cultural heritage awareness programs, festival celebrations at small
levels.
This is mostly done to bring out talent in people and also to reduce stress and
give feeling of belongingness to employees.
3. It’s about talent acquiring & management: Talent
acquiring is integral and most important part for the organization; HRs are responsible
for acquiring good & talented people from different segments of the business
and provide them with appropriate remuneration and motivation which will create
win-win situation for both, the employee and the company. HR should also understand
that acquiring good talent is alone not enough; you have to nurture it to its best
productivity and need to retain it.
4. It’s about relationship: This is natural talent
in HRs and a mandatory quality to become a HR, as one needs to manage good relation
with all the people he/she meets and talk to; they might be your seniors, juniors,
boss or ex-employees. Although, the relations with mentioned people is within the
premises of company, but still formal dedication in maintaining good relations is
required from HR’s front. As well, relationship should also be cordial with
recruiting firms, consulting firms, auditing firms, payroll firms, verification
firms and its people.
5. It’s about honesty: As HR has high level of information
and data of employees, organizations, associates information and many important
data like salary packages, employees personal information, related agencies contact
information and concerned persons, event organizers and suppliers details and many
other information which are secretive in nature, non-disclosure agreement is mostly
signed with the HRs and same is signed by other concerned people or agencies.
