How to change Server Password in different Dedicated Environment

You are given an administrative password when you install or reinstall the Windows operating system. As explained in our tutorial on safeguarding a dedicated server, we strongly advise you to change this first password. Your admin password has to be reset using rescue mode if you've forgotten it.

Credentials

The following server credentials can be viewed and updated on this page:

  • Account for remote administration

  • root account or the operating system administrator

  • Safety mode account root

  • accounts on a control panel

  • individual credentials

  • Additionally, you can add custom credentials and delete existing ones.

Except for special credentials, Leaseweb automatically updates all credentials displayed here.

Please be aware that Leaseweb supports employees and all other users of the customer portal who have gained access to your account can see your credentials.

looking at a password

Click the See password link to view a password. The password will load and be visible right away.

updating a document

Select the Update link to make changes to a credential. The dialogue box to update credentials appears.

The username & type cannot be modified; only the password may.

To make the change, enter a fresh password and click Save.

The new password will overwrite the old one right away after saving, so the old password is not displayed. When updating a credential, Leaseweb imposes a no password policy.

Taking away a certificate

Click the Remove link to remove a credential. The credential will be taken away right away.

Including a unique credential

Click the Add Password button to add a unique credential. The dialogue box to create credentials appears.

Click Save to store the new credential after choosing the type and entering the username and password.

Simply follow these steps to modify the admin password in Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

  • To access Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2012 R2, log in as the administrator user.

  • If you used RDP to log in to the Windows Server, press Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Alt+End.

  • Decide to change your password.

  • Enter your previous administrator password, then enter your new password and confirm it.

Objective

On your GNU/Linux os, it might be necessary to modify the password (or the password for your admin/sudo user). There are two potential outcomes:

  • SSH is still available for logging in.

  • You can't access SSH because you forgot your password.

Instructions

Using the always-available OVHcloud rescue mode, the procedure to change the local admin password is described in the steps below (Linux-based). Skip to the relevant section at the end of this article if you prefer to use Windows PE (WinRescue).

Restarting the server in rescue mode is the first step.

Before changing the admin password, the system must be restarted in rescue mode. Enter the OVHcloud Control Panel, pick the Bare Metal Cloud area, and then choose Dedicated Servers as your server type.

It is necessary to change the netboot to "rescue64-pro (Customer rescue system (Linux)" In the General info box, look for "Boot" and then click..., then Edit.

Choose Boot in rescue mode on the following page, then pick "rescue64-pro" from the selection. If you do not want your login information delivered to the primary email address associated with your customer account, enter a different email address below.

Select Next and then Confirm.

Click on... in the box marked "Service status" after the modification has been made. The server will reboot into rescue mode if you choose Restart.

The second step is mounting the system partition.

SSH should be used to access your server. (For further assistance, go to the SSH introductory guide.) As a Windows server, you may notice partitions marked "Microsoft LDM data."

According to the size of "sda4" in the example output, it should be the (file) system partition. Typically, there is a second output that is mirrored, in this example "/dev/subs." That is because the server will typically have several drives with identical partitioning layouts. Only the first step is crucial for the reset password process. Mount this partition next:

Clearing the existing password in step three

To reset the admin user's password, this step entails using a tool to manipulate the SAM file. List the Windows users after changing to the proper directory:

Restarting the server is step four

First, in the OVHcloud Control Panel, switch the netboot back into Boot from the Hard Disk (see step 1).

Creating a new password is step five (IPMI)

To start a KVM session, go to the IPMI tab in the OVHcloud Control Panel.
